Million Man March: The message was the moment.

Controversy still swirls around this historic event, long after the memories have faded. It was fueled, not by the message, but the messenger. America does not bestow praise upon transgressors, and the minister called Farrakhan was, in the eyes of many Americans, not without sin. But history will show that this demonstration was less about the messenger than it was the message, and the message was the moment. Black men from the four corners of America gathered at the nations’ capital to praise, not one man, but themselves. A young boy, who grew into manhood before their eyes, captured the spirit of that moment. Only 14-years old at the time, Ayinde Jean-Baptiste challenged the fathers and brothers among those gathered to embrace their responsibilities and build a nation of strong men within a nation. He was like the young prophet among the moneychangers. He personified the very best of those gathered there. He spoke to their hearts, and captured the imagination of a nation reborn.
